States of Matter (Solid)

The Solid State

Matter exists in three forms :

1.Solid
2.Liquid
3.Gas

How these states can be differentiated ?

Unique properties of solids:
1.Definite Shape
2.Definite Volume

Pen Book,Needle ,Wood piece are all examples of solid state.

The molecules in the solid state are tightly packed. There is negligible space between the molecules in the solid state.Since there is no space between the molecules it cannot be compressed .Therefore the shape remain intact .

As the force is applied on the solid ..it tends to break.try to change the shape of  a wooden plank..its shape cannot be changed but if more force is applied to it then it can be broken. Its difficult to change the shape. The solid state is the rigid state with define volume.

Take the example of your book .Keep your book anywhere it will remain as such...Its shape will not change whether you keep in your almirah or your school bag.Its volume will also remain the same.(Length ,breadth and height of the book will not change)
