Olympics 2012 - London

Greatest sporting tournament of the world is here. Switch on the television sets, same news - Olympics. Set of 8 - 9 people sitting comfortably in the studios and discussing - who will win and who will not win. Open the newspapers - Olympics this and Olympics that.

What difference does it make to a common man who has to go daily to the kirana shop and buy bread and milk and then get busy himself in his daily chores. The cost of the milk and the bread he buys will not change. So what is the big deal in Olympics for a common man. Athletes who compete and along with them politically connected officials visit the foreign destination at tax payers cost. Some friends and family will also visit the venue. How a particular athlete will perform becomes the topic of talk for the newsmakers and easy way to fill their telecast hours earning them easy money with ready made news material.

Editors, news writers who publish articles in the Papers also earn money by analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the athletes. What good does it do to discuss how many meters someone will throw the discus or javelin? Will it actually affect the athlete's performance and help them in winning the medal? No it is all useless discussion. Common man who is struggling with recession, corruption, inflation and bad job market does not really care about these news articles and shows. However when one of these athlete's does win a medal and come back the common man will be truly happy as the win is for our country and increases our pride.

A cup of tea

Numerous types of tea - Green Tea, Black Tea, Irani Chai, and so on. In monsoon, on a rainy day, sipping a hot cup of tea is a must. Put together - water, tea leaves, milk and cardamom create such a magic potion mixture call tea.

Magic potion since it relieves the headache and stimulate instant energy in few minutes. How did this saying come in to being "It's not my cup of tea". The person who  have coined this phrase may have tasted many types of tea and may not have liked one of those type and consequently came to a conclusion that this is not his cup of tea.

As the wheels of taste buds of long acted slowly on numerous variety of teas, ultimately establishing the difference between gimmick and expedient tastes or otherwise he denies involvement of particular tastes as better on the taste buds. The tastes which qualified the taste buds became his cup of tea. The idiom is used beautifully and significantly connect it with the real fact.

Comedy Queen - Bharati Singh

We regularly see the Comedy Queen Bharati Singh in the TV Show Comedy circus taking the audience into a laughter roller-coaster ride. As we see her perform we get pulled into the comic act and go crazy laughing. Just looking at her funny faces make us laugh uncontrollably. Her physique is such that it reminds us of yester year actress Tun Tun. As a stand up comedian in Comedy Circus when she gave a performance we used to roll in laughter.

Now that she has joined Jhalak Dikhla Ja as a contestant in the dance show. Earlier I thought that what will she do there? Also she is not so slim - trim like other participants. There were doubts but after seeing her dancing in the show, it seems that she is real talent. She can entertain everyone with her talent and smile and comedian looks.

She has the spontaneous comedy timing and make any situation really funny with her instantaneous answers. We can certainly hope for her to shine more and more. All the best to her for "Jhalak Dikhla Ja".

Stitch Dear Tailor Stitch

Stitching is an art in itself. Tailors are artists in their own sense playing with the cloth, scissor and thread, ultimately converting a plain piece of cloth into lovely outfits. Now is the age of branded ready made apparels stitched in factories by machines. But still at times if you need some customization you need to go to a tailor. I got entangled in a web, caught in a loop in search of a tailor who could sew a divided skirt for school uniform for my daughter. I went to a tailor master with the cloth, gave instructions on what was the requirement and also measurements. He assured that the dress will be ready in 4 days. When I called to inquire on the progress as per the date given I was told that it will take 2 more days.

2 more days went by and again I called to check on the progress and the tailor made an excuse that he was out of town and would prepare the dress in 2 more days. After 2 days I decided to go the shop myself and check for myself what was going on. My daughter was very enthusiastic and accompanied me along. On reaching there we found that the cloth was cut in 2 but still not stitched into a dress. We took the cloth cut in 2 parts and went to another tailor. He assured a week's time to complete the task. One week went by and we had to take back the cloth as is un-stitched still and the promise of delivery again broken.

Finally we found a tailor with the help of our gate keeper who completed the stitching of the dress and gave a lovely uniform.  This is an art form which is slowly dying and number of really skilled tailors is reducing. Still we need the tailors for some dresses which cannot be bought as is from the market.

Colourful healthy salads

Salad is a dish which can be used as main course or side dish in our Menu. Easy to make and packed with nutrients having natural healthy constituents Salad is good for our health. Perfect salad should be crispy, moist with proper dressings on it. Subway salads and Quiznos salads are really yummy and nutritious. Tomatoes, Lettuce, cabbage, spinach, onion, cucumber are main part of vegetable salad. For dressing lemon, vinegar, salt, pepper, butter, or olive oil can be used. This kind of salad provides essentials Vitamins for our daily diet. Steaming is the best option to prepare salad since it preserves maximum natural nutrients of all fresh vegetables. Raw vegetables have thick cell walls and it is difficult for body to absorb all the nutrients. Steaming in turn softens the vegetables. Boiling again brings loss of some nutrients. Other than the vegetables sprouts of Moong Daal and Black Chana can also be added to the salad to make it richer in Proteins.

It is nature's bounty and Nature is perfect.

Looking out at Sun

Our energy systems need to become efficient and sufficient. Use of local natural resources like solar, wind, biomass should become more common. For this also we look towards the sky, the abode of God. We look up to the sky and seek the help of Sun. Sun can be the major source of energy. Surya dev has athaaha krupa on India. Our elders worshiped Sun early in the Morning. Scientifically offering water to Sun early in the morning brightens the divya jyoti of our eyes.

Our ancestors may not have known about this but worshiped God as a part of their daily routine. Solar energy is now concentrated using Solar Panels and used to generate electricity. In Magarpatta city in Pune, there are hundreds of buildings. Thousands of people reside there and there is no need to fit geysers in individual flats as Solar panels are used for heating Water supplied through pipeline to flats saving lot of electricity. This is a novel concept and should be used in more and more buildings as our country has abundant sunlight available.
