Acchar Vichar - Pickle to tickle - Aamla Gooseberry

In the scorching summer heat, I crave the tangy, sour taste of amla pickle. It is easy to just pick up a bottle from the supermarket, but I wanted to try making my own this year. I went to Star Supermarket and bought 250 grams of amla for ₹80 per kilogram. While walking past the pickle aisle, I was tempted to just buy a bottle, but I knew I would be proud of myself if I made my own. Making it myself would enhance my cooking skills and increase my confidence.

When I got home, I boiled the amla for one whistle, or about 5 minutes, until they were soft. I drained them and added them to a pan with 3-4 tablespoons of mustard oil. I added a pinch of turmeric and salt to taste and fried the amla for 5 minutes on low heat. After half an hour, when the amla had cooled, I transferred them to a glass jar. My amla pickle was ready to enjoy with paranthas and roti!

I kept the leftover water in a glass and refrigerated it. It is very healthy and rich in antioxidants.

Try this simple recipe and enjoy it. It will take 25 minutes in all.
